GNOME Do; Program and File Luncher for Ubuntu

Inspired by two popular Mac applications; Spotlight and Quicksilver, David Siegel has developed GNOME Do as a part of his university course which afterward became a popular application for Linux.
With GNOME Do, you can quickly launch an application just by typing the application’s name. It’s not just restricted to applications. You also can search and open webpage, Firefox bookmarks, files, album in Rhythmbox and etc. Everything is just on your finger tips. Type the things you one in GNOME Do and launch it. You can extend the functionality of GNOME Do by installing extra plugins such as Banshee, Pidgin, Google Calculator and Tomboy.
Install GNOME Do in Ubuntu 8.04:
Open the terminal and type:
sudo aptitude install gnome-do gnome-do-plugin-rhythmbox gnome-do-plugins
This will install GNOME Do and Rhythmbox plugin.
Install GNOME Do in Ubuntu 7.10:
You’ll need to add a repository to sources.list file:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Add this line to the end of the file:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/do-core/ubuntu gutsy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/do-core/ubuntu gutsy main
Save and close the text editor and then run
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-do
Install additional plugin:
You can get additional plugin from here. You have to place the plugin that you donwload ( .dll file) into ~/.local/share/gnome-do/plugins and restart GNOME Do.
Launch GNOME Do
Now you can enjoy using GNOME Do. To launch GNOME Do, you just need to press [win button@super] + [space bar] and start typing item that you want.
GNOME Do is not added to the start up programs list by default. You may want to go to System > Preferences > Sessions and add gnome-do –quiet to make GNOME Do start up automatically when Ubuntu boots up.
